The Signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between Vietnam Atomic Energy Commission and Guangdong Nuclear Electricity Corporation

In the morning of 21/7/2010, in Hanoi took place the Signing ceremony between Vietnam Atomic Energy Commission (VAEC), Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and Guangdong Nuclear Electricity Corporation, China.

Attending the Signing ceremony were Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Lê Đình Tiến, Mr. Vương Hữu Tấn – Director of VAEC. In the Chinese side were Deputy Minister of Chinese Energy Ministry Mr. Qian Zhi Ming, Mr. Zhang Wei Qing – Deputy Director of Guangdong Nuclear Electricity Corporation and representatives from Dong Phuong Electricity Corporation, China.

This is one activity within the framework of Vietnam – China Cooperation Agreement on Atomic Energy use for peaceful purposes which was signed in December 2000. In order to promote cooperation activities in the field of nuclear electricity, Guangdong Nuclear Electricity Corporation and VARANS together exchanged, discussed and came to the agreement of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two parties in this field. Mr. Lê Văn Hồng – Deputy Director of VARANS and Mr. Zhang Wei Qing – Deputy Director of Guangdong Nuclear Electricity Corporation, China signed this Memorandum on behalf of the two parties.

Delivering a speech at the Signing ceremony, Deputy Minister Lê Đình Tiến said that in recent years Vietnam’s Party and Government have had important policies on the development of nuclear electricity as well as atomic energy. This has brought in big opportunities as well as created many challenges for Vietnam during the establishment and development of this new field. Therefore, Vietnam has paid special attention to the cooperation and supports from international communities. The Deputy Minister hoped the Signing ceremony would be a step to specify the Agreement signed between the two Governments; promote the cooperation on research, education, information exchange and provision of electricity services between the two countries for the coming time.

Deputy Minister of Chinese Energy Ministry Mr. Qian Zhi Ming shared it took China 20 years to master nuclear electricity technology. He said that Vietnam would quickly master the technology if it actively strengthens international cooperation and promote research activities.
