From 26 to 29 August 2019, in Da Lat City, the Vietnam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety (VARANS) coordinated with the Office of International Nuclear Security (INS), National Nuclear Security Agency (NNSA), US Department of Energy (US DOE) organizing a Workshop on Physical Protection Performance Testing. Mr. Luong Ba Vien, Deputy Director of the Dalat Nuclear Research Institute attended and gave the opening remarks.


The workshop's instructors are experts from the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratories, participants are representatives of the regulatory body and involved organizations who work directly and indirectly to the nuclear security field, i.e VARANS, Institute for Nuclear Science and Technology and Institue for Technology of Radioactive and Rare Elements, None Destruction Evaluation (NDE) center.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Luong Ba Vien, Deputy Director of the Dalat Nuclear Research Institute emphasized the close cooperation between VARANS and the Institute in recent years, highly valued the effectiveness of workshops and training courses hosted by VARANS, welcomed US delegation for coming and sharing valuable experiences in nuclear security field and strongly believes in the success and benefits that this Workshop would bring to participants.
 


The 4-day workshop includes theoretical lectures and practical exercises, aiming to provide skills and methods to assess the performance of Physical Protection System and Nuclear Material Accounting and Control (NMAC) system, and response forces, thereby support to create and maintain an effective Physical Protection System, integrated with all nuclear facility security functions./.
