Vietnam and New Zealand: Science and Technology Cooperation

Participating in the Discussion were Ex-Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Trần Quốc Thắng, Ms. Heather Riddell, New Zealand’s Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Alex Malahoff – President of New Zealand Geo-nuclear Research Institute together with scientists of the two countries.

In 01/2010, Vietnam’s MOST and New Zealand’s Ministry of S&T Research signed the Memorandum of Understanding in order to promote S&T cooperation between the two countries for the coming time. On the basis of the signed Memorandum, New Zealand sent scientists who represented fields of S&T strengths and led by Dr. Alex Malahoff – President of Geo-nuclear Research Institute to Vietnam to understand and identify S&T priority cooperation fields between the two countries.

This Discussion was one of activities within the framework of this visit. This was the opportunity to help scientists and scientific managers to exchange, discuss, share experience and its focus was to identify priority cooperation fields for the coming time.

Making a speech in the Discussion, Ms. Heather Riddell, New Zealand’s Ambassador to Vietnam welcomed S&T achievements gained by Vietnam. She said that this cooperation program once affirmed good relationships between the two countries for S&T development purposes.

Ex-Deputy Minister Trần Quốc Thắng highly appreciated the visit of New Zealand’s scientist delegation as well as achievements gained in the relationships between the two countries over the past time, especially in S&T field. Ex-Deputy Minister also expressed desires to receive more often supports from New Zealand.

As scheduled, the delegation would visit and work with some agencies as Hoa Lac High Park and Ho Chi Minh City High Park, Institute of Irrigation Science, Vietnam S&T Institute, Hanoi Polytechniques University, Department of Geology and Minerals…
