Participating in the Workshop were experts of IAEA, Japan, the US and representatives from Ministry of Police, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defence, VARANS, Vietnam Atomic Energy Commission, Department of Atomic Energy.
Making the opening speech, Deputy Director Le Chi Dung emphasized in the current global situation, nuclear security has become a global issue which needs to have the attention and cooperation of the international community. With the commitment to use nuclear for peaceful purpose, Vietnamhas always made efforts in assuring nuclear security. The Deputy Director recognized the fact that the Workshop on Nuclear Security was organized at the point of time was very useful because it was the time for improving the legal basis to introduce nuclear power in Vietnam in 2020.
In the Workshop, experts presented international nuclear mechanisms, Treaty on Nuclear Entity Protection and Amendment (the Treaty) and current tendency on nuclear security. Japanese experts also introduced about the process of introducing international nuclear requirements into Japanese legal framework, Japanese efforts in introducing the Treaty’s requirements into the national system and Japanese policies on nuclear security in the current context.
The Workshop was a good opportunity to share information and experience with experts of IAEA, the US and Japan in the international nuclear security mechanism and then its effective application in the development and improvement of Vietnam’s nuclear security mechanism.
