Minister of Science and Technology Plodprasop Suraswadi highly appreciated social and economic achievements in general and S&T achievements in particulate which Vietnam has gained over the past time. Minister Plodprasop Suraswadi said that although Vietnam has experienced many consequences from big floods and storms, it has been able to ensure food production and export. Thailand wanted to have opportunities to learn and share Vietnam’s experience in flood prevention, especially in its strategies for climate change.
In the meeting, Minister Nguyen Quan highly appreciated the efficiency of S&T cooperation between the two countries gained over the past time and hoped the cooperative relations between the two countries would be developed well.
Minister Nguyen Quan proposed Thailand to support Vietnam in training S&T human resource in fields which Thailand has had strengths as biology technology, nano technology, new material technology, post-harvest technology …
In addition, Minister Plodprasop Suraswadi also emphasized that in besides traditional cooperation fields Vietnam and Thailand would need to focus on establishing cooperation in fields which are currently of concerns of not only the region but also of the whole human being as food security, energy security.
The two parties also desired to strengthen cooperation among universities in order to create favorable conditions for scientists to have opportunities to exchange, share experience, establish projects on research and development cooperation, contributing to solve urgent issues, bringing in practical benefits for people of the two countries as well as those of the region.
In order to promote cooperative relations betweenVietnam and Thailand in terms of S&T, the two parties agreed to conduct the 7th Vietnam – Thailand Ministerial Meeting on S&T in Bangkok, Thailand in 2012.
